Baby I'm bad news ([info]wonderpup) wrote in [info]thedailyshow,

The Daily Report fans + Striker assistance

So I was thinking Whedonesque got the ball rolling by ordering pizza and donuts for the strikers ... why don't we? (and by we I mean [info]colbert_report and [info]thedailyshow) Why don't we get a collection going on a paypal account and order them some food? Maybe we can get JSX or OSCLA involved.

I mean Eric Drysdale is picking,

Picketers including Eric Drysdale, a writer for “The Colbert Report”, right, chant “Hey, hey, ho, ho, management can’t write that show” as they march on the picket line at the Time Warner Center in New York. (Found thanks to a post on [info]ohnotheydidnt)

I'm sure he'd be glad to see Daily Show + Colbert Report fans supporting the strikers.

Anyone game for it?

You'd think people who are paid to be creative could do better than that tired old "Hey-hey, ho-ho, [the thing we hate] has got to go" chant. I fucking HATE that chant and those who use it. Blech.

They actually have a whole list they have been using, some are pretty funny

“We write the fiction, we want jurisdiction”
“No more scripts, no more pages, soon we’ll empty all your stages”
“Webcasts, DVDs, we won’t write them, not for free”
“We write the story-a for Eva Longoria”
“I am walking at this gate ’cause I got screwed in ’88”
“How much you earnin’, Peter Chernin?”
“Who’s got more money than they can count? Pa-ra-mount”
“Pencils down! All around! Hollywood’s a union town”
“They tried to make me do a rewrite, but I said, No! No! No!”

Haha, my favorite: “Who’s got more money than they can count? Pa-ra-mount”.

Anyway- I'm game for the paypal idea. Only thing is, I'm not american...im in singapore actually. I don't know how it would work..but willing to fork out. :)

It'd still work, I am reasonably certain whatever you donate in singapore currency (do not know the name for it) would just be converted to whatever the US Dollar amount is.

The two things you seem to need however, are a paypal account(free) and a bank account/credit card.

All you need from the person you are sending it to, is their E-Mail address.

I like “They tried to make me do a rewrite, but I said, No! No! No!”

hmm. alright then. I suppose that's no problem. So, if anybody is organizing this, count me in! ( actually, singapore currency.....are just called dollars. haha, we don't have a special name like 'yen' or 'pounds'... so yup. ;) )

Hey Wonderpup! No Fact Zone, OSCLA, JSX, and others are currently in support of Fans4writers.com. Like you said, they have a "Food For Thought" program that we're encouraging everyone to donate to. But, of course, the more the merrier. Let me know if OSCLA and JSX can do anything to help, and I'll certainly rally the troops.

I saw that site, but I like the idea of the writers knowing what fandom is supporting them.

They mention that, "Fans of Supernatural have delivered fruit, Moonlight fans have delivered pizzas, and supporters of The Office are planning on a pretzel run!" I don't mind coordinating any food drop efforts with the site, to make sure drops don't collide, but I like the idea of the raising of funds and deciding what to send, to be an in-fandom operation.

I think the writers like it when they see fans supporting them with food drops. But I also think they may be even more cheered when they see it is their fandom supporting them. And we know TCR/TDS writers are likely to be picketing in NYC, so the chance of them seeing a drop by one of their fandoms is great.

idk anymore though, if I should change the post to one about the F4W site, or just leave it as a independent from F4W interest post.

I hadn't been on JSX or OSCLA for a while, so I didn't know they had affiliated with the F4W site, so thanks for letting me know!

From what I understand, the fandoms affiliated with Fans4Writers will coordinate with the site, but it will still be known to the writers which fandom is participating. For example, they may get a group of 20 from the group to bring the food, but that day is "Colbert Report/Daily Show" fan sponsored day. That way we have a bigger number and bigger support, and can do more good than if we try to go at it alone.

Plus the Wheadonesque kids really have their s#@t together. This could really be a good thing for all the fandoms involved.

I'd donate...who's setting up the paypal? And how do we insure the stuff gets to the right peeps? (I think the Whedon fans went down there with the foods, and hung a sign, and made sure the right folks saw it, etc)...I would happily go down but I'm just another non-union wage slave working 11 hours a day.

*g*

No. Seriously.

Who is going to be in charge of the operation? And how would it work? See...living in Missouri I'm trying to figure out how this would all go down. I don't want to just donate some money for someone somewhere to buy themselves some lunch...I want it delievered to the writers.
